Introduction & Overview
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has announced that unemployed Floridians MUST actively search for work as of Saturday, May 29, 2021. Also, Saturday, June 26, 2021 is the final day the state will issue the extra $300 weekly Federal unemployment benefit, which was implemented because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The state’s work search requirement has been waived since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic last year when businesses were forced to shut down or scale back operations. The waiver allowed people to claim unemployment benefits without the requirement of having to reach out to five prospective employers each week. On May 29th, this policy ends.
Starting in June 2021, business owners will also now be able to report people not completing the work-search requirement, by either not showing up for an interview or refusing work.
